relax…….. i got YOU!

all you need to do is show up, cuddle your baby…. i will take care of the rest

I know those first few weeks with a newborn can be a whirlwind, the last thing I want is for this experience to make you feel stressed or anxious - so please read below for all the common questions and if there is something I haven't covered just reach out via text, instagram or email!

what do i need to bring for baby?

You really don't need to bring anything!! Part of the newborn experience with me not having to worry about a thing. I have carefully curated a collection of wraps, blankets and nappy covers for you to use at our session. All items are soft neutral tones and created specifically for photography.

If you would like to bring a special outfit or blanket for your baby that is totally fine also! I am happy to incorporate special pieces into the session.

All I suggest is throwing in a dummy (if you are planning on using one) this can sometimes get us through a session if baby starts to become unsettled.

What do we wear?

This is the most common question I get asked!

Firstly you need to be comfortable, and secondly be kind on yourself. Please don't forget that you just gave birth to a human, and your old wardrobe may not fit exactly like it did 9 months ago! Find something you feel comfortable in, or have look in my client wardrobe. I have neutral dresses for mums, dresses for little girls, and neutral T-shirts for boys & dads in a range of sizes - check out my instagram stories to see the selection.

When selecting clothes I suggest coordinating colours - not matching! Gone are the days of ALL family members in blue jeans and a white shirt (don't get me wrong - jeans and a shirt are still a good choice, and an easy one for Dad to pull together)

Soft muted colours keep the focus on your baby's tiny features rather than your clothing.

Textures can bring depth & dimension (think knits, cord, linen) gentle colours and patterns bring in some of your family personality.

I am happy to guide you - you are welcome to send me photo's of your options if you like!

Below are some examples of ways you can coordinate your family outfit selections

Our Baby's schedule

lets be honest - you and i are not in charge of this shoot schedule….. and thats ok!

arrival

settle in & get comfortable

If you are in Port Lincoln you may want to feed at home, or you welcome to come settle in and then give baby a feed. I have a nice comfortable couch to sit on, and the heater is always on before your arrival.

You are welcome to bring baby in the car carrier if that's easier for you

Lets get started

nappy change and wrap

Once you are settled in let's get started!

I often start with a nappy change - I have some super small nappies that aren't bulky in photo's, we will get baby changed, wrapped and happy. The next step will all depend on how baby is feeling.

Lucky for you I have done this a few times and will guide you on our best plan of attack. Sometimes we might start with family shots, sometimes we might start with baby on their own. Ill let you know if I need you to do something, so just relax on the couch, grab a drink from the fridge or help yourself to the coffee machine!

Siblings

If there are siblings joining the session you might discover that today is the day they decide to be extra un-cooperative… you don't have a special one (in the kindest way possible).

I have seen and heard it all, and I get it!

This can be completely overwhelming for siblings. They might feel like their world had been completely turned upside down and the last thing they want to do today is be in this new place where EVERYTHING feels like it's about the baby….AGAIN.

My aim is to make them feel as main character as possible, and if they don't feel like participating in every moment, that's ok too. I will gently guide them into the photos on their terms, and when they are ready.

session length

how long will it take?

This all depends on how things flow and how settled baby is. Usually sessions last anywhere from 1 - 2 hours.

We have time for feeding, settling + toilet breaks (I have a toilet on-site available). If you have somewhere you need to be by a certain time just let me know, but there is plenty of time to relax into the shoot - I don't follow a rigid timeframe for newborn sessions, so don't feel like we need to rush though anything

FAQ

This is my first photoshoot, what should I know?

You don't need to pose for me! All you need to do is enjoy time with your family. You don't always need to be looking at the camera - in fact I think the best moments happen when you are just relaxing. I will gently guide you to capture you in the best light, capture all the small details and if I need you to do something I will let you know.

What if baby doesn't sleep?

Thats's ok! Working with a baby who doesn't want to miss a moment off their shoot doesn't worry me. The aim is to have your baby comfortable and happy, I have spent years perfecting the way I capture babies and I promise you will get beautiful photo's.

what if we are running late?

I almost expect it. There is always a poo explosion, vomit situation or toddler meltdown - it's ok! If you are going to be more tham 15mins late just send me a text.

how long will the photo's take edit?

You will have them back within 2 weeks. The final images will be delivered to you via an online gallery sent to your email for you to download, share and print.
